Thomas died unexpectedly in Tameside General Hospital on 24th February 1990 after a short illness; he was 61 years old.

He left his wife of 42 years, Margaret, along with six daughters - Ann (RIP), Barbara, Kathryn, Lynn, Susan and Debbie. He also left fourteen grandchildren with a further two having been born since his passing.

Thomas was born and lived in Stalybridge. He attended Hyde Grammar School which is where he first encountered his future wife, Margaret, although it was a few years before they would become boyfriend and girlfriend.

Apart from the time he spent doing his National Service, he worked all his life for what is now BT. He took early retirement from there in the 1980s after many years of loyal service.

Thomas was laid to rest in St. Georges Chruch, Stalybridge on 1st March 1990.

He was a quiet, intelligent and caring man whose life revolved around his family. He was not loud or demonstrative but you always knew he would be there for you if you needed him. All his children had the utmost respect and love for him whilst he and his wife had been devoted to each other for many, many years.

Things are getting really tough for all of us right now, we are all missing Ann more and more as December gets nearer, having you here now would be such a comfort to all of us, you'd know how to help us all. Miss you Dad. Love Always xxxx

Growing older!

Another one of your daughters hit the big 50 this week, Lynn has denied it for months and is still in denial!!! Still we all went out for a meal on Friday night to celebrate, know you weren't a 'going out for meals' person, but you'll have noticed that we've adapted to the practice quite happily!!! We had a good time and its good when we all get together, there are glaring gaps at the table but we are slowly learning to take a deep breath, paint on a smile and know you are both watching over us, Sue is the next 'big one' but I'm sure we'll find numerous excuses to frequent eating establishments before then! Love you Dad xxx

Silver Surfing!!

Hope you and Ann have noticed and been amazed by Mum's new computer literacy! Have just one small request though, should there be a sudden panic amongst the super powers down here, the hotline to and from the White House glowing with use, launch codes being dragged from safes and red buttons being dusted off, would you please use a little influence and get her out of the American National Defence Computer....I'm sure she was only trying to send an e-mail and pressed the wrong button!!! Seriously we all think its great, know you'd agree, we'll have her driving next!! Debbie has done a great job encouraging her and getting her started, we've alot to thank Debbie for, not least these two sites, your's and Ann's, they give some comfort when the hurting wont go away. Thinking of you, love you Dad xxx

Grandad, I was only 7 going on 8 when you passed, but the aftermath of how it hit everyone else is still embedded in my mind, which shows how truly loved you were, and still are. Wish I could have got to know you better - I still remember playing dominoes with you, helping you count your coppers and twanging those braces, just like Aunty Sue said!!! Hope you're doing ok up there, and you're helping Aunty Ann settle in... so glad she's got someone she loved so much to keep her company. Thinking of you both x

My Dad

My Dad was kind, thoughtful, gentle, loving, funny,a jack of all trades ( master of a few ) and the font of all knowledge .

My Dad had a wicked sense of humour and an even wickeder sense of style. Remember his braces that just had to be pinged ( if we were feeling brave ) and the flat cap !

My Dad had the patience of a saint, most of the time !!, he had to have sharing a home, more especially a bathroom, with 7 females. What with all our lotions and potions, especially Lynn's TCP, it's little wonder that he claimed the room first every morning and woe betide anyone who broke that rule.
He'd spend hours trying to explain Maths homework to fog brained daughters, who at the time didn't appreciate the relavance of anything other than

Hi, I came across this by accident and I got reading it.... Thomas sounds like a great man and a great father.... It bought a smile to my face reading about him trying to electrify his wifes whisk with his drill...... that is something my dad would do,,,,,lol ... Seems like he was as lucky having such a wonderful family as you were to have such a loving, funny and kind husband and father....
Rest In Peace Thomas xxx

Leaning time on the person nearest to the wall has passed into family legend!! You were clever, inventive and could turn your hand to anything, you made the dresses for my bridesmaids. Although trying to electrify Mum's handwhisk by attaching it to your drill was one of your few failures!! You left a huge gap in our lives but we have felt your presence in our joys and our sorrows, the heartbreak of losing Ann was eased just by knowing she was coming to you. You are still so loved and so much missed. Love Always

It's been 17 years Dad, since Kouider brought Ann's letter to tell me you'd gone. There are still times when I need your advice, no matter how bad I believed things were or how difficult the problem, your calm good sense and absolute love made everything so much better. You did the daftest things, that had us all totally helpless with laughter, your imitation of Baloo followed by

Grandad Thomas Jackson

Grandad, i was only 6 when you passed away. And even though many years have passed i can still remember looking forward to coming to see you so i could mess with your fancy watch, and look through all the photos you had!
Thats about as much as i can remember.
It hurts to know i didn't the chance to get to know such a fine man better. Sure you and you're eldest are reacquainted and sharing life after death.

Goodnight Godbless x x x

Tomorrow it will be seventeen years since you left us but I can still remember it like it was yesterday.

You left so many memories but, strangely, one of the main ones I keep of you is of your infamous 'leaning time' when you used to get one of us in the corner of a room and lean on us. Somehow we never managed to get away in time.

Then there's the gorgeous bacon and egg muffins that you used to bring to me in bed on a Sunday morning.

Your efforts to look after the joint of meat that was cooking on a Saturday afternoon whilst Mum went shopping. The number of times you fell asleep in front of the telly and had to rush into the kitchen when you woke up because the meat was well past it's cooking time.

I can remember you sitting watching 'Pot Black', snooker was the one sport you cared about and you were a good billiards player too.

You taught me so much that has stayed with me. I could still change brake pads, spark plugs and tyres if I had to. All that time I spent watching and helping you mend the car weren't wasted.

I also remember the summer you spent re-laying the lawn at the front of the house. I helped by throwing the new seed onto the ground , with you telling me where to throw it. We must have done a good job as it's still there and there's no bare patches.

You were the most calm and caring Dad that anyone could hope for. We always knew you were there for us, especially if we didn't feel well. You were the nurse of the family - how many times did you end up sitting in casualty with one of us?

Alot has happened since you left us but I'm sure you're watching down on us and know exactly what's going on.

Goodnight, God Bless

xxxx
